- This is the rear package tray insulation pad. It sits directly under the cardboard package tray board and against the rear deck metal beneath the back glass. Its job is simple but important: Absorbs road noise coming through the rear deck. Reduces vibration and resonance from the trunk area. Helps insulate against heat from the trunk and exhaust. Prevents the package tray board from rattling on bare metal. Without it, the rear deck acts like a drum. With it, the cabin feels tighter and quieter. This is insulation only. It is not the visible cardboard tray.
